Handprint on My Heart

"There are always so many of my fingerprints to see,
On the furniture and walls from sticky, grubby me,
But if you stop and think a while,
You'll see I'm growing fast,
Those little handprints will disappear,
You can't bring back the past.
So here's a small reminder,
To keep not throw away,
Of how those tiny hands once looked,
To make you smile one day."

As an educator I have had the pleasure of teaching all ages of children and seeing children from infancy to middle school age. Every child I have had the opportunity to work with has touched my heart in some way. There are so many stories, but at the end of the day in general being able to see a former student who is now a teenager but was three or four when I taught them still remember me touches my heart more than anything.

I actually had the pleasure of having a student in my fifth grade class this past year that was in my pre-k class years ago. He was so excited that I was his teacher and bragged to the other students every chance he could get about the things that we did in my class when he was small. Those are the moments that make this all worth while.

  1. I absolutely know how you feel. It amazes some of the things that the students remember and value, so we don't always know how much we impact their lives. This is why I love being at the beginning of their journey also. KArm.
